The continent is known for going above and beyond in its attempt to expand its influence on the world. There are many world records held by Africans. The desire for progress has led to Africa claiming several official Guinness World Records over the years.

1 . To begin with, THE LARGEST COFFEE SKETCH IN THE WORLD

South African Artist, Percy Maimela in September 2019, won a spot in the Guinness World Record. This was after he successfully created the largest mosaic made from coffee. The artist completed his picture on a 5×5 meter canvas, with the sheet 100% covered in ground coffee with zero negative space. This qualified him for the Guinness World Record title.

2 . Secondly, THE OLDEST PERSON TO BEGIN PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Kenyan, Kimani Nga’ang’a Maruge enrolled in primary school at Kapkenduiywo Primary School in 2004 at the age of 84. He said his decision was prompted by the government’s announcement of universal free elementary education in 2003. In 2005, Maruge boarded an airplane headed to New York City to address the United Nations 2005 World Summit. He went to speak on the importance of free primary education.

3 . Also, TUEDON “TEE” OMATSOLA MORGAN (OWNER OF MULTIPLE RECORDS)

Another South African, Tuedon Morgan is the World Record holder of 2 different world records. The fastest time for a woman to run a half marathon on each continent (10 days, 23 hours, and 37 minutes). And, the fastest time for a woman to run a half marathon on each continent and the North Pole (62 days, 12 hours, 58 minutes, and 49 seconds). She is an accountant by profession and mother to four boys currently living in Qatar. Morgan began her record-breaking journey as she desired to change her unhealthy lifestyle.

4 . Besides the above, THE OLDEST MAN TO SWIM ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL

Also, Otto Thanning is a South African. He is a heart surgeon. On September 6th, 2014, he became the oldest person to swim on the English Channel. He began from Shakespeare Beach in Dover, the United Kingdom, to Wissant Bay close to Calais in France in 12 hours 52 minutes. Thanning was 73 years old then. Thus, he set the record as the most aged man from South Africa to swim across the English Channel.

5 . Lastly, 400 Metres World Record

Athletics is one of the most highly competitive and watched sports across the world. The endurance of Africans has most often prevailed. It is not shocking that the world record for the Men’s 400metres is held by a South African Wayde van Niekerk (43.03 seconds). He achieved this on August 14th, 2016 at Estadio Olimipico, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
